Headteacher's Welcome

The Hayfield School is a very popular and high achieving 11-16 school with academy status. We are unashamedly traditional in the values we hold most dear: a strong work ethic; kindness; decency.  Central to our culture and ethos, professionals work hard to instil these simple values into our young people in order to prepare them for adulthood and the world of work. Our aim is to create confident individuals, life-long learners and responsible citizens who move to the next stage in their life having:

  • Fulfilled their academic potential
  • Developed essential personal skills and attributes
  • Grown resilience to face down challenges and setbacks

Of course, great schools do not happen by chance! They come about and thrive when professionals and families work in close partnership to support and encourage young people. At The Hayfield School, we value this partnership and work hard to ensure that parents/carers are well informed about their child’s academic progress. Professionals work extremely hard to plan and deliver lessons which stretch and challenge all students, no matter what their starting points. At the same time, we want them to experience fun and laughter by taking advantage of the extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities we offer.

A recent innovation has been the creation of a House System in order to further promote a strong team spirit and a healthy sense of competition! All students belong to one of four houses: Endeavour; Liberty; Courage; Wisdom. At the end of every term the whole school comes together for a fun event in order to raise funds for charity. The House System is also woven through other aspects of school life. Whether it be participating in The Duke of Edinburgh Award Programme, sport, performing arts, or volunteering through our LORIC programme (Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Independence, Communication), we want our young people to have fond memories of their time with us, knowing that they had the best possible preparation to thrive in adult life and take their place in society.

I do hope our website gives you a taste of what we are about as a school.
