Enrichment and Extra-Curricular

Teaching life-skills and character has always been one of the forefront objectives of education, but often these skills are forgotten about amid the quantitative measures of academic performance. At The Hayfield School, we remain determined this should not be the experience of our children and young people and recognise the value of an enriched curriculum in the development of the whole child.

The purpose of enrichment is to provide extended learning opportunities to study concepts with greater depth, breadth and complexity, while also helping students to pursue their own areas of interest and strengths outside the normal parameters of the school day. At The Hayfield School, we are proud of our comprehensive enrichment offer that aims to promote:

  • Self-confidence,
  • Leadership skills,
  • Self-motivation
  • Team working
  • Wider participation
  • Creativity
  • Emotional wellbeing

Evidence of a young person’s skills and achievements beyond their subject grades looks great on a CV or application form when applying for higher education, an apprenticeship or work. For this reason, students should be encouraged to take advantage of our enrichment offer and see it as an essential part of their educational experience.

With so many exciting enrichment opportunities planned across the academic year, where will you be going in 2018-19?

We are particularly proud of our involvement in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Since its creation in 1956 by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, the DofE has gone from strength to strength having had a  positive impact on young people’s lives, in terms of their personal development and employability, and on wider society, from charities gaining active and engaged volunteers to businesses hiring work-ready recruits.

There are three levels of programme which, when successfully completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. The main differences between them are the minimum length of time they take to complete, how challenging they are and the minimum age you can start.

The three Award levels are:

Bronze - for those aged 14+ years

Silver - for those aged 15+ years

Gold - for those aged 16+ years

At The Hayfield School, we offer our young people the opportunity to complete the Bronze and Silver Award. For more information, please contact Mrs Conroy or Mr Huddart.

Extra-Curricular at The Hayfield School

In addition to our enrichment offer, The Hayfield School actively promotes extra-curricular clubs and activities as a way to engage young people and promote life-long learning and wellbeing. The most up-to-date list of clubs and activities can be found at the bottom of this page. Our Extra-Curricular Timetable is updated regularly, so keep watching this space!
